FAQ's

How soon can I ride my bike after a wrap?

We know better than anyone that you want to be on your bike asap, but unfortunately we do have a full 24 hour wait before the bike can be ridden after a wrap. This is due to the wet application we use when installing our kits.

How long will it take to Shack Wrap my bike?

We need your bike for roughly 4-6 hours. We do prefer it if you can leave it with us for 24 hours, as this means the wrap will have fully dried out.

Whats the best way to contact you?

We prefer a phone call over an email. Its faster more personal and a 2 minute phone call can save numerous emails.

How much is a Shack Wrap going to cost?

With bikes available in thousands of different years, makes, models and sizes, we kindly ask you to get in touch for an exact costing. The average cost is roughly £180

Do I need to strip my bike down?

No, bring it to us as it is. We disassemble as much as we need (we are all fully Cytec trained mechanics) and reassemble. If you could please remove any aftermarket add ons though, panniers, bottles, bottle cages, mudguards etc

How much coverage does Shack Wrap offer?

Due to our kits being designed, digitally cut and installed in house, our tolerances are tiny. This means maximum coverage! We aim for upwards of 95% (although this can vary depending on the model of bike)

How much weight does Shack Wrap add?

Don’t worry, Shack Wrap is added protection without the weight penalty. Our protection kit is roughly 50g which is the same as 50ml, or a little over a swig from your water bottle.

Can I get a used bike wrapped?

Yes of course! We regularly wrap used and second hand bikes. Due to the finish of the film we use, it can really give a used bike a new lease of life and make that dull paint shine again! Whenever possible you should always “Wrap It Before Your Wreck it”!

How clean does my bike have to be?

If its a new bike, then great, just bring it in as it is. We will prep and de-grease the bike before wrapping. If the bike is used, we ask that you give it a real good clean and degrease the drive chain. Please do not use any oil, silicone or spray lubes prior to bringing the bike to us.

What brand of paint protection film do you use?

We only use the market leading PPF…… XPEL

Having tried dozens of different films from all over the world, painstakingly applying samples to different areas of our own bikes, seeing which film performs to our high standards, we decided you really do get what you pay for, and stuck with XPEL.

How long will your wrap last once applied?

This is a tricky one. We regularly see bikes that we wrapped several years ago still in perfect condition. But for those riders that really push the limits of the bike it can be a shorter life span. Shack Wrap can replace any sections of wrap that you may damage along the way, and we can normally do this as a “whilst you wait service”, and we price it just depending on the size of piece you have damaged.

What wrap finish should I choose? Matte of Gloss?

Most people stick with the original finish of the paint, i.e gloss paint = gloss wrap, but you can mix it up if you desire, by putting a gloss wrap on a matte bike or visa versa. But you can discuss this with us when you drop the bike off if you are unsure.

My bike has a mix of matte and gloss paint, what do I choose?

We have you covered, don’t worry! In most cases Shack Wrap can do a mixed wrap. This does take us longer and will be slightly more expensive, but will keep the original look on the bike.

Can you change the colour of my bike?

Shack Wrap only offers clear protective wraps.

If you want to change the colour, we advise getting it painted.

Can I post my bike/ frame/ forks to you to be wrapped?

Of course. We regularly have bikes posted to us to be wrapped.

Can I wait around whilst my bike is wrapped?

Yes! But as stated we do prefer to keep the bikes for 24hs after wrapping so they are completely dry. But we understand some of our customers travel long distances and it isn’t always possible.

We have a warm office to chill, Wifi, hot & cold drinks and good banter, so you are more than welcome to keep us company whilst we wrap your bike.

Will you sponsor me?

Hit us up with a full CV. We get lots of sponsorship applicants every year, and we cant say yes to everyone, but give us a try.

Do I need to do anything different after having my bike wrapped?

Transporting/ storing the bike now it has been wrapped:

No Bike racks or strapping/ clamping of the frame for 48h minimum!

If putting on a bike rack or clamping/ resting the frame in any way you MUST use some sort of rag or cloth to take the friction out between the clamp and the frame, as this can peel/ pull the wrap. This is very important within the first few days of it being wrapped!

Can I remove the Shack Wrap?

If you need to remove the wrap, either due to damaging a piece or selling the bike, you must remove the wrap in the correct way or you could risk damaging the paint.

Keep the bike/ frame in a warm environment for a couple of hours, this brings the overall temperature of the bike up.

Use a hair dryer/ heat gun/ steamer to loosen the adhesive and remove slowly, stretching the film back on itself a few centimetres at a time, making sure not to pull upwards as you go. Please seek professional advice if you don’t feel confident in doing this process.

How thick is the wrap you use?

The short answer… 8 mils or 215 microns.

The long answer, we have sampled dozens of different brands, thicknesses, types of film, and came to the conclusion that Xpel is the best money can buy for the application we want it for.
